“The intention for the design was to create a work that has a symbiotic relationship with the natural environment with it’s simple reaching shapes and natural patina finish,” said artist Troy Pillow.
“Zenith is a sculpture that celebrates the landscape of the high desert. Soaring peaks and meandering rivers are but two natural attractions that draw people from near and far to enjoy what Bend has to offer. Whether you like summiting a peak or drifting down a river and everything in-between, you can find it here”.
The three-piece composition represents the mountains while the graceful flowing outer edge represents the flowing streams and rivers. The three-element configuration of the design is geometrical in layout, providing changing views as one moves and experiences the sculpture. The peaks vary in height, breaking the symmetry of the three elements. The slight inward angle creates a sense of rising movement.
The Corten material compliments the materials used in the park’s infrastructure such as the bridges and buildings. Combining organic materials and natural finishes with simple shapes, allows Zenith to have a symbiotic relationship with its surroundings while creating a monolithic presence that reminds us that exploring the natural world brings a connection with nature and a sense of enlightenment.
Using various metals, stainless steel and fused glass, Troy Pillow’s unique sculptures capture your attention and engage the imagination through simple design and kinetic movement. His works offer an ease between modern design and nature, blending fluidly with their environment and elements.
Troy Pillow’s sculptures interpret nature’s genius, a balance of complex function and simplistic beauty. Pillow incorporates metals and glass into his sculptures and refines them into elegant curves, giving the feeling of movement in their static rest.
Pillow’s work can be found in public art and private developer locations throughout Washington, California and Oregon as well as in Utah, Arizona and Colorado.
