“To see a wolf is to witness wild intensity. Wolves are tirelessly on the move, working together for the success of the pack. Aspire features a trio of wolves running up a rising slope. The angled base creates an upward motion to the design that evokes an inspiring feeling. The wolves bravely leaping forward invites viewers to run together towards our highest potential,” said artist Bryce Pettit.
Aspire is made of bronze and the three wolves were fabricated at one-and-a-half times life-size scale. The increased size enhances the overall sculpture’s presence, making it more imposing than a standard 1:1 life-size sculpture. It is commonly used for public monuments or statues meant to be viewed from a distance.
The proximity of this roundabout to Caldera High School has prompted Art in Public Places to commission a series of wolves depicting a Wolfpack honoring the mascot of the newest high school in Bend. The student groups and Bend-La Pine School District staff were drawn to mascot ideas that represent a community. The school’s website states that, “Students and staff members of Caldera High School are all members of the Wolfpack representing the greater community and each individual has the talents and skills to help everyone thrive”.
Bryce grew up surrounded by nature, which fostered a deep interest in the world around him. His desire to create and his love of the natural world have always been closely linked. Eventually the passion to create became undeniable and he focused full time on a career as a sculptor.
Bryce has been a professional sculptor for nearly 25 years and is featured in a collection of acclaimed galleries and exhibitions. He has also created several large public works including for the Tulsa International Airport, the Maritime Museum in Ludington, Michigan; the Na ‘Aina Kai Botanical Gardens in Kawai, Hawaii as well as several libraries and schools.
Bryce lives in Durango, Colorado surrounded by the mountains and rivers he loves.
